What I collect, and what I do with it.

What the contact form collects

The form at /contact/ collects your name, your email address, your message, and the topic you pick if you pick one. To deliver it, my site passes all of that to Resend, an email service that handles the sending. It then reaches my email inbox. Both Resend and my inbox are hosted in the United States, so your message crosses the border on the way to me.

I keep those emails only as long as the conversation needs them. If we go on to work together, our correspondence becomes part of normal project records instead.

I do not add you to a mailing list. I do not sell your information, trade it, or pass it to anyone for marketing.

My server records the time of each submission and a code worked out from your IP address, so I can limit automated abuse. That record is kept apart from your message.

Analytics, and only if you accept

If you accept cookies, this site loads Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager. It records which pages get visited, roughly which part of the world the visit came from, and what kind of device and browser was used. It does not record your name, and it does not record anything you type into the contact form.

If you decline, no analytics cookie is set and no analytics data is sent. Analytics start in a denied state on every visit, so nothing is collected before you choose.

What gets stored in your browser

Your choice is saved in your own browser. It is not a cookie, and it is not sent to me or to anyone else. It records whether you accepted or declined, and when.

That record lasts 6 months, after which the banner asks again. You can change your mind before then from "Cookie preferences" in the footer of any page.

Logs kept by the web host

The company that hosts this site keeps standard server access logs, and those logs include IP addresses. They belong to the host and are kept under their retention policy. I do not use them for analytics or marketing.

Asking me to show, correct, or delete what I hold

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Send that through the contact form and I will reply as quickly as I can, and within 30 days at the latest.

Where I operate

I am an independent consultant based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I work under Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.

Changes to this page

If what I collect changes, this page changes with it and the date below moves.
